Permit Validity
3-day single-trip permits are required before entering Arkansas.
Operating Hours
Daylight only (sunrise to sunset).
Exception: Continuous travel allowed for overweight loads ≤108,000 lbs and ≤90′ in length, provided other dimensions comply with legal limits.
Restricted Travel Areas & Times
- No travel through Little Rock metro during 7–9 AM and 4–6 PM.
- Banned Routes: I-30 (MM 138-143), I-40 (MM 151-155), all of I-630.
- Holiday Restrictions: No movement on major holidays or adjacent weekends.
Legal Dimensions According to Arkansas Oversized Load Regulations
- Length: 53 feet 6 inches (trailer and load)
- Overhang:
- Poles, pipes, machinery, and steel beams (up to 60 feet) do not require a permit for daylight travel if overall length does not exceed 90 feet.
- Night travel requires a permit.
- Up to 53 feet 6 inches of trailer/load allowed without a permit unless long beams are on a stretch trailer and extend beyond the rear (permit required).

- Height: 13 feet 6 inches

- Axle Limits:
- Single Axle: 20,000 pounds
- Tandem Axle: 34,000 pounds
- Tridem Axle: 54,000 pounds

Routine Permit Limits for Arkansas Oversize Permit Requirements
- Length: No set limit
- Width: 16 feet (20 feet allowed on some non-interstate routes)
- Height: 17 feet
- Loads over 16 feet require special approval and are not allowed on Interstates.
- Loads over 17 feet require utility personnel accompaniment.

Escort Requirements for Oversized Load Transportation

- 2-lane highways: 1 escort (>12′), 2 escorts (>14′)
- Interstates: 1 escort (>14′), 2 escorts (>16′)
- Length: 1 escort required for loads >100′, 2 escorts for loads >130′
- Height: 1 escort with height pole required for loads >15′
Safety Regulations for Transporting Oversized Loads
- Mandatory Markings:
- “OVERSIZE LOAD” signs for over-dimensional loads
- 18″ red flags on rear corners
- Shipping Containers:
- Loaded containers: No overhang allowed
- Empty containers: 5′ overhang permitted (varies by state)
Specialized Transport Services
- Super Loads: Require case-by-case assessment for pilot vehicle requirements
- Utility Coordination: Personnel must accompany loads taller than 17 feet
