All oversize loads entering the City of Braddock must conform to the requirements set by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and the Allegheny County Department of Public Works.

In general, any vehicle over 10 feet in width, 14 feet in height, and within the Class 3 weight class should obtain an oversize load permit from the Braddock Public Works Department.

Additionally, all loads must be escorted by a trained driver and meet the safety standards set forth by the Pennsylvania State Police.

Escorts are required for all oversize loads exceeding 12 feet in width or height, as well as those with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) over 80,000 pounds.

The City of Braddock requires a minimum of two escort vehicles for any load that exceeds the aforementioned dimensions. A police escort is also required for any load traveling during peak traffic hours (7am-9am and 4pm-6pm).

To apply for an oversize load permit, please visit the City of Braddock's Public Works Department website or call (412) 323-7890. A completed application and required documentation must be submitted at least 72 hours prior to the intended movement date.

The required documentation includes a detailed route plan, proof of liability insurance, and a copy of the vehicle's registration.

All oversize loads are prohibited from traveling through the City of Braddock during peak traffic hours (7am-9am and 4pm-6pm).

Additionally, all loads are restricted to using designated truck routes and avoiding residential areas whenever possible.

The standard permit fee for the City of Braddock is $50, plus an additional $25 per hour for any route complexity exceeding 10 minutes.

A $100 fuel surcharge may also be applied for loads traveling over 50 miles.
