All oversize loads entering the City of Calistoga must conform to the requirements set by the California Department of Transportation.

In general, any vehicle over 12 feet in width, 14.5 feet in height, and within the Class III weight class should obtain an oversize load permit from the Calistoga Public Works Department.

Additionally, all loads exceeding 85 feet in length must be escorted by a certified pilot car, as outlined in Calistoga Municipal Code Section 10-2.

The City of Calistoga requires escort vehicles for any load exceeding 85 feet in length or 12 feet in width. Additional requirements include a minimum clearance of 14.5 feet and a maximum gross weight of 80,000 pounds.

For loads over 100 feet in length, an additional police escort is required and must be scheduled at least 2 weeks in advance through the Calistoga Police Department.

Applicants must also provide proof of liability insurance with a minimum coverage of $1 million.

The City of Calistoga prohibits oversize loads from traveling during peak tourist hours (11 am - 3 pm) and on major event days, such as the annual Calistoga Fair.

Additionally, all loads are restricted from traveling through downtown Calistoga between 9 am and 5 pm, Monday through Friday.

The standard permit fee for the City of Calistoga is $350. Additional fees apply for escort vehicles (starting at $500), police escorts (starting at $1,000), and expedited permits (starting at $200).
