All oversize loads entering the City of Chino in San Bernardino County must conform to the requirements set by both Caltrans District 8 and the Chino Public Works Department.

In general, any vehicle exceeding 8.5 feet in width, 14 feet in height, or 80,000 pounds gross weight must obtain an oversize load permit from the Chino Engineering Division at City Hall.

Loads traveling through the Chino Industrial Park or along Pipeline Avenue during peak hours (7-9 AM, 4-6 PM) require additional routing approval due to heavy commuter traffic from the nearby 60 Freeway interchange.

Private escort vehicles are mandatory for any load exceeding 12 feet in width or 90 feet in overall length within Chino city limits. The escort must maintain constant radio contact with the load driver.

Chino Police Department requires advance coordination for police escorts on loads over 14 feet wide or 100 feet long, with a minimum 72-hour notice. Police escort fees are $150 per hour with a 4-hour minimum, payable to the City of Chino.

Permit applications must be submitted to the Chino Public Works Department, Engineering Division at 13220 Central Avenue, or through their online portal at chinoworks.org/oversize-loads. Contact the permit desk at (909) 334-3250 during business hours 8 AM-5 PM, Monday-Friday.

Required documents include current Caltrans permit, detailed route plan showing entry/exit points via State Route 60 or State Route 71, vehicle registration, and proof of $1 million liability insurance. Bridge analysis is required for loads over 150,000 pounds.

No oversize load movement is permitted within Chino from 6-9 AM and 3-6 PM on weekdays. Weekend restrictions apply from 10 AM-6 PM on Saturdays and all day Sunday in residential areas.

During summer months (June-September), heat restrictions may apply requiring loads over 100,000 pounds to move between 10 PM-5 AM to prevent pavement damage on sections of Edison Avenue and Ramona Avenue.

Euclid Avenue is restricted to loads under 11 feet wide between Francis Street and Grand Avenue due to median landscaping. Central Avenue between 6th Street and Riverside Drive has a 100,000-pound axle limit due to ongoing utility work.

Standard oversize load permit fee is $35 for single trip permits and $150 for annual permits. Additional fees apply for loads exceeding 12 feet wide ($50), 14 feet high ($25), or 100 feet long ($75).

Route inspection fees are $200 for loads over 150,000 pounds or 15 feet wide. For movements requiring temporary traffic control on city streets, expect an additional $150 per hour for traffic control services with a 2-hour minimum.
