All oversize loads entering the City of Loving must conform to the requirements set by the New Mexico Department of Transportation.

In general, any vehicle over 10 feet in width, 14 feet in height, and within the Class III weight class should obtain an oversize load permit from the Loving Public Works Department.

For specific routes through downtown Loving, a separate permit is required for loads exceeding 12 feet in width.

In Loving, escort vehicles are required when the load exceeds 12 feet in width or 14 feet in height. The Lovington Police Department provides escorts upon request.

For loads exceeding 15 feet in length, an additional police escort is required.

Applicants must provide 3 business days advance notice to obtain an oversize load permit.

Time-of-day restrictions apply in Loving from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Oversize loads are prohibited during these times.

During heavy rain events or extreme weather conditions, the Public Works Department may restrict oversized load movements for safety reasons.

The standard permit fee in Loving is $200, which includes a base fee of $100 plus an additional $50 for each mile of restricted route.

Oversize load permits issued on short notice (less than 3 business days) incur an additional $25 fee.
