All oversize loads entering the City of Union City must conform to the requirements set by the Tennessee Department of Transportation.

In general, any vehicle over 10 feet in width, 14.5 feet in height, and within the Class 3 weight class should obtain an oversize load permit from the Union City Public Works Department.

Additionally, all oversized loads must be escorted by a trained flagman or pilot car when traveling through downtown Union City during peak hours (7am-9am and 4pm-6pm) to ensure public safety and minimize disruptions.

In Union City, all oversized loads over 12 feet in width or 16 feet in height require an escort vehicle to ensure safe passage. The Union City Police Department will provide escort services for a fee of $75 per hour.

Any load deemed hazardous by the Tennessee Department of Transportation will also require an escort vehicle, regardless of size.

The standard permit fee in Union City is $150, with an additional $50 per hour for escort services. The minimum permit fee is $200.

A fee increase of 10% applies to all permits issued during peak season (June-August).
