Utah Oversize & Heavy Haul Transport Guide

Permit Basics

Single-trip permits valid for 5 days (required before entering Utah).
Available at state line ports of entry with advance phone approval.
Operating window: ½ hour before sunrise to ½ hour after sunset (including weekends).
24/7 Travel: Allowed for qualifying loads (≤10′ wide, ≤92′ long, with proper lighting).

Restricted Travel Areas

  • Urban curfews (6–9 AM and 3:30–6 PM weekdays) apply to:
    • Loads over 10′ wide or 105′ long
  • Affects Wasatch Front counties (Box Elder to Utah County)
  • No holiday travel on Pioneer Day (July 24) or major holiday weekends

  • Length: 53 feet (semi-trailer standard)
  • Overhang:
    • 3 feet front
    • 6 feet rear
  • Width: 8 feet 6 inches
  • Height: 14 feet
  • Weight Limits:
    • Gross: 80,000 pounds
    • Tandem Axle: 34,000 pounds
    • Tridem Axle: 42,500 pounds

Routine Permit Limits

  • Width: Up to 17 feet (bulldozer blades >16′ must be detached)
  • Height: Up to 17 feet 6 inches (requires utility clearance proof)
