All oversize loads entering the City of Santa Fe must conform to the requirements set by the New Mexico Department of Transportation.
In general, any vehicle over 12 feet in width, 14 feet 6 inches in height, and within the Class 3 weight category (over 80,000 lbs) should obtain an oversize load permit from the Santa Fe Public Works Department.
Additionally, loads exceeding 18 feet in width, 19 feet in height, or 150,000 lbs require a special permit and may need to follow a specific route approved by the City of Santa Fe Traffic Engineer.
Escort vehicles are required for oversize loads exceeding 16 feet in width or 14 feet 6 inches in height during daylight hours.
For loads over 20 feet in width or 19 feet in height, a police escort is mandatory, and arrangements must be made through the Santa Fe Police Department's Special Operations Division at least 48 hours in advance.
