In general, any vehicle over 12 feet in width, 14.5 feet in height, and within the Class A Weight Limit should obtain an oversize load permit from the South Shore Public Works Department.
Additionally, all loads must be secured with tarps or covers to prevent debris from scattering onto local roads.
According to the Kentucky State Police, escort vehicles are required for all loads exceeding 15 feet in width or 16.5 feet in height. A maximum of two escort vehicles are allowed per load.
The South Shore Police Department requires a $100 fee for escort services, payable upon scheduling.

Base permit fee: $500. Additional fees apply for route complexity ($100 per mile), load size (over 12 feet in width), and weight (exceeding Class A Weight Limit).
A $200 fee applies to expedited permits, available only with at least 48 hours' advance notice.
