Freight Types We Transport

Your freight determines the transportation plan. Heavy Haul Transporting helps you evaluate oversized loads, overweight loads, flatbed freight, step deck freight and specialized trailer options for heavy haul shipments. Send your dimensions, weight and route so our team can review the equipment and planning your move requires.

Match Your Freight to the Right Transportation Plan

You do not need to know the trailer name before contacting us. Start with what you are shipping, where it is going and how it can be loaded. The same piece of equipment may fit more than one freight category, and the most suitable arrangement depends on the complete shipment.

Oversized and overweight describe shipment conditions; flatbed and step deck describe open-deck transportation options. Specialized trailers support loads whose dimensions, weight, support or loading needs require another configuration.

01

Oversized Loads

Freight that extends beyond applicable legal dimensions needs a plan built around its loaded size. Heavy Haul Transporting reviews the shipment’s length, width and height alongside the proposed trailer, pickup access and delivery conditions. A load may be oversized without being especially heavy, so dimensions deserve the same attention as weight.

Tell us whether protruding components can be removed, whether the equipment can travel in a lower configuration, and whether lifting or loading restrictions apply. Those details help establish the transport profile before equipment is selected. Route review, permits and escort coordination are evaluated for the specific shipment and jurisdictions involved.

02

Overweight Loads

Weight planning begins with more than the cargo’s total pounds. The loaded combination, axle arrangement, weight distribution and route all affect the transportation approach. Dense machinery and industrial components can require additional axle capacity even when their dimensions appear manageable.

Provide a reliable shipping weight, available drawings, support locations and any center-of-gravity information. Our team uses those details to review suitable equipment and the route requirements. A shipment that is both oversized and overweight must be assessed for both conditions. Permit availability, bridge restrictions and equipment suitability need shipment-specific confirmation before dispatch.

Flatbed Freight

Flatbed freight is a practical option for cargo that benefits from open-deck loading and can be supported and secured on a level deck. Building materials, fabricated components and suitable machinery can often be loaded from the side or above when the site has the right equipment.

Share the number of pieces, individual dimensions and weights, loading arrangement and any weather-protection requirements. We review how the cargo sits on the deck, where it can be secured and what equipment is available at each end. A flatbed shipment is not automatically a legal-size shipment; the final loaded dimensions and weight still determine the requirements.

Step Deck Freight

A step deck trailer provides a lower main deck than a standard flatbed, which can help accommodate taller cargo. It may be an appropriate option for equipment and machinery when the lower deck, usable deck length and support arrangement fit the shipment.

Equipment selection depends on the full loaded height, ground clearance, loading method and weight distribution. Let us know whether the machine runs, whether it can be driven onto a suitable trailer, or whether cranes or forklifts are needed. A lower deck does not guarantee that permits can be avoided. Our heavy haulers review the actual transport configuration before recommending the next step.

Specialized Trailers for Heavy Haul Loads

Some shipments need a configuration beyond a standard flatbed or step deck. Depending on the load, options may include removable gooseneck trailers, lowboys, double drops, extendable trailers and equipment with additional axles. Each serves a different combination of loading access, clearance, support, length and weight requirements.

Send photographs, drawings and the proposed loading and unloading methods so the team can evaluate the fit. A trailer name alone does not establish usable capacity or route suitability. Heavy Haul Transporting reviews the complete shipment rather than selecting equipment from a generic capacity claim. For complex loads, our heavy haulers can discuss the details needed to develop a transportation plan.

From Load Details to Delivery Coordination

01

Share Your Shipment

Provide pickup and delivery cities and states, cargo description, dimensions, weight, photographs and requested dates. Identify whether measurements include attachments, packaging and any transport supports.

02

Review Equipment and Access

We review the load profile, suitable trailer options and access at both locations. Include dock availability, crane or forklift arrangements, ground conditions and restrictions on appointment times.

03

Confirm the Transportation Plan

The route, equipment availability and any permit or escort needs are addressed for the shipment. Ask questions before booking so the scope, responsibilities and schedule are clear.

04

Coordinate Pickup and Delivery

Confirm site contacts, readiness and unloading arrangements before dispatch. Communicate changes to dimensions, weight or site access promptly because they may affect the plan.

Real Freight. Original Shipment Photos.

Our shipment records include a Cat D5 bulldozer move from a data center construction site in Michigan City, Indiana, to Franksville, Wisconsin. The original photographs show the loaded equipment and give you a practical view of the freight we coordinate.

Every move deserves its own review. A photograph can help explain the cargo, but dimensions, weight and route details establish the shipment requirements.
