All oversize loads entering the City of Wilsonville must conform to the requirements set by the Alabama Department of Transportation.

In general, any vehicle over 12 feet in width, 14 feet in height, and within the Class 3 weight class should obtain an oversize load permit from the Wilsonville Public Works Department. Additionally, oversized loads transporting construction equipment or materials must provide proof of liability insurance with a minimum coverage of $1 million.

Specific requirements for oversized loads carrying wind turbines or other tall structures require a separate permit and escort vehicle from the City's Traffic Division.

Escorts are required for any oversized load exceeding 16 feet in width, 18 feet in height, or weighing over 50 tons. The Wilsonville Police Department will provide escort vehicles during daylight hours Monday-Friday.

Oversized loads transporting wind turbines or other tall structures require a police escort with flashing lights and sirens at all times.

Applicants must provide a minimum of 7 business days' notice to obtain an oversize load permit.

Time-of-day restrictions prohibit oversized loads from traveling on I-65 between the hours of 7:00 am and 9:00 am, Monday-Friday.

During winter months (December-March), oversized loads transporting construction equipment or materials must provide proof of snow chains or traction devices for all routes.

The base permit fee is $100, with an additional $50 per mile for routes exceeding 10 miles. Oversized loads transporting wind turbines or other tall structures incur a flat fee of $500.

Fees vary based on load size and weight: $200 for loads under 30 tons, $300 for loads between 30-40 tons, and $400 for loads over 40 tons.
