All oversize loads entering the City of Johns Creek must conform to the requirements set by the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) and the Johns Creek Public Works Department.
In general, any vehicle over 10 feet in width, 14 feet in height, and within the Class 3 weight category should obtain an oversize load permit from the Johns Creek Public Works Department.
Additionally, all oversized loads must be escorted by a police officer during peak traffic hours (7am-9am) on weekdays to ensure public safety and minimize disruptions.
The Johns Creek Police Department requires an escort vehicle for any load exceeding 12 feet in width, 16 feet in height, or weighing over 80,000 pounds. The police department will provide a list of approved escort companies and schedules the escorts upon permit approval.
A fee of $500 is required for each police-escorted move, payable to the Johns Creek Police Department.
To apply for an oversize load permit in Johns Creek, please visit the City's website and submit an application through their online portal. You can also contact the Public Works Department directly at (770) 623-7722 or [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]).
A complete application package must include a detailed load description, route information, and proof of insurance coverage. The City may request additional documentation or clarification on certain points.
The City of Johns Creek has a ban on oversized loads during peak holiday seasons (Thanksgiving Day to New Year's Day). Additionally, there are restrictions on oversized loads traveling through certain neighborhoods and business districts between 10am-4pm on weekdays.
During inclement weather conditions, such as heavy rain or strong winds, the City may impose temporary restrictions on oversized load movements.
The standard permit fee for Johns Creek is $1,200, with an additional $500 fee for police escort services. There may be additional charges for route complexity or special permits.
Fees are non-refundable and must be paid in full before the permit is issued.

California stands out among the top three states for oversize transport demand, a position attributed to its bustling ports, extensive agricultural operations, and thriving technology manufacturing centers.
Coastal states like California face additional complexity due to environmental protection zones along transport routes, with approximately 15% of heavy hauls involving marine-related industries.
