All oversize loads entering the City of Key West must conform to the requirements set by the Florida Department of Transportation.
In general, any vehicle over 12 feet in width, 14.5 feet in height, and within the Class 3 weight classification should obtain an oversize load permit from the Key West Public Works Department.
Additionally, all oversized loads must be accompanied by a flagger or escort vehicle during peak traffic hours (Monday-Friday, 7:00 am-9:00 am) to ensure public safety.
In Key West, escort vehicles are required for all loads exceeding 12 feet in width or 14 feet in height. Local police escorts can be arranged through the Monroe County Sheriff's Office (305-745-9150) with at least 24 hours' notice.
