All oversize loads entering the City of University, located in Hillsborough County, must conform to the requirements set by the Florida Department of Transportation.
In general, any vehicle over 12 feet in width, 14 feet in height, and within the Class 3 weight category (over 120,000 lbs but not exceeding 150,000 lbs) should obtain an oversize load permit from the University Public Works Department.
Additional permits may be required from the Hillsborough County Public Works Department if the oversize load will be traveling through county-maintained roads.
Escort vehicles are required for oversize loads exceeding 16 feet in width or 15 feet in height in University. Escort vehicles must be equipped with appropriate warning lights and signage as per Florida Statutes.
Information about local police escort requirements can be obtained by contacting the University Police Department at (813) 641-4040. Police escorts are required for loads exceeding 20 feet in width or 18 feet in height, and fees start at $200 plus $50 for each additional hour.
