All oversize loads entering the City of Rockport must conform to the requirements set by the Texas Department of Transportation.
In general, any vehicle over 10 feet in width, 13.5 feet in height, and within the Class 2 weight class should obtain an oversize load permit from the Rockport Public Works Department.
Additionally, all loads must be properly secured to prevent debris or materials from falling off during transport.
According to Rockport Municipal Code Section 14-4, escort vehicles are required for any load exceeding 12 feet in width or 16 feet in height.
The City of Rockport requires a minimum of two escort vehicles for loads over 100 feet in length and/or weighing more than 50,000 pounds.
To apply for an oversize load permit in Rockport, please visit the City's website at rockporttx.gov and click on 'Public Works' then 'Permits'. You can also call (361) 729-2311 to schedule a consultation.
Applicants must provide a minimum of 72 hours' notice before transporting an oversize load.
Rockport City Code prohibits oversized loads from traveling during peak rush hour times (7:00 AM - 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM, Monday-Friday).
Additionally, no oversized loads are allowed on Beach Street or any portion of Highway 61 within the city limits.
The base permit fee for Rockport is $100, with additional fees ranging from $25 to $50 per mile traveled.
